Monday
ma vie en rose.
i'm going to miss it. waking up in the red room. red nails on the feet of anaïs. the pink legs of the girl i raced on a saturday night (i won on a lark-she couldn't reach the pedals!). and the mini working overtime (we then fit three adults and three bikes in as well. like a clown car).
isabelle hosted a competition for smile! and save the planet. it was really fun. and i won new straps for my pedals!! the pictures should be up soon over there.

like the cat in the chinese restaurant.
i like how it looks like she is in the brady bunch opening credits
looking down at the other cat.

piles and piles
i had begun to put my life into piles once again.
cookbooks, french grammar books, sticker paper.
and more clothing than i want to talk about.
the necessities for the moveable life i live.
but then i found out that i have my little corner in paris for a month longer.
i couldn't be happier.

paris on wheels
(first photo gratuitously reposted)
The weather is nice. Now I don't ride my bike only.because.I.have.to. And Paris is giving me little high fives to remind me how fun it is on wheels. But there's a few things that need to happen (I will speak in the active voice and say "that I need to do") to make my bike happy too.
Bike repair to-do list:
1. Repair brake. This tops the list because I ran into a pieton on Friday night. Not on purpose, but after it happened I felt righteous anger because he was being drunk in the street.
2. Remove link from chain. I can't count how many times it has jumped off when I ride over the pavé. And if I had a euro for every time someone tells me my chain sags...well, yeah I'd have some money.
3. New saddle. One morning I woke up, and my beautiful white perforated leather saddle had been transformed into the piece of crap that's on my bike now. Which is neither white, nor perforated. Discuss. (thanks dad!)

Rose Bakery

One day I ate lunch with my friend Lubna at Rose Bakery. I was delighted. The food was delicious, and for once in Paris, I didn't feel guilty for speaking English. Perhaps I was under the Rose Bakery spell, perhaps I was an irresponsible tourist, but in any case I left my wallet at Rose. When I went back to retrieve it, the staff just laughed and shook their heads.
Yesterday, back in New York, I came across this cookbook. I hope to own it, because I love everything about Rose Bakery.
